The Gift “Friend”

I want to design a gift for celebrating the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States for the 50th anniversary. I will use Tai Chi movements to write the words ‘Fifth years of friendship’. Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. The term Tai chi refers to a Chinese philosophy of the forces of Yin and Yang, related to the moves. Yin and Yang (阴阳 yīnyáng, lit. "bright-dark", "positive-negative") describe how seemingly  opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.

The relationship between these two countries metaphorize as Yin and Yang.

This work will show on the evening ceremony at January 1st 2029 when China's president visits the United States. The work will be performed by a Tai chi master on the stage to the leaders and journalists in the ceremony. During the performance, there will be synchronization of the vision and the letter on the back screen. And the immobile photography version will give as a gift to the United States.
